Church of England Joint Lead Bishop on Racial Justice,  The Rt Revd Dr Rosemarie Mallett, visits St Anselm's

Group picture

On Sunday 26 October, at our last service in Black History Month, we were honoured to welcome the Rt Revd Dr Rosemarie Mallett, Bishop of Croydon and the Church of England's Joint Lead Bishop on Racial Justice.

She preached a powerful sermon based on the reading on the Parable of the Good Samaritan. he reminded us of the similarities between the racism in the 1970's and 1980's to what is happening today. She asked the congregation who we wanted to be in the parable and whether we saw Jesus as the man who was attacked lying in the ditch. What would we do? She called us to be people of 'merciful compassionate action causing us to see the face of God in the other, especially the vulnerable and marginalised.'

In true St Anselm's style, the service was followed by a delicious bring and share lunch.
