Harvest Festival Service interrupted by a monster called Greed!!
Our children along with Vicar, Emma, led a very thought provoking Harvest service which involved a very hungry monster called Greed. Read the full sketch below. Donations of food and money have gone to Harrow Food Bank. Well done to all our children who did a wonderful job of telling this important story and of course to the hungry monster!!

Monster Sketch
Narrator: On the 6th day God created humanity. God created them out of love, God
blessed them and trusted them.. God asked them to live in harmony with the
rest of creation, tending to and caring for it.
On the 7th day God rested, and shortly thereafter humanity wanted more, taking
the forbidden fruit and with the first taste, humanity created its own being, a
monster that became known as greed!
The monster: Hello!
Narrator: Though busy, the Greed Monster remained quite small for millennia.
Humanity spread around the world and flourished. Blessed with great minds,
humanity innovated, they found more and interesting ways to work the land.
Some innovations were positive – finding ways to feed each other and to heal
through medicines. But the greed monster refused to stay quiet.
Greed was hungry.
The monster: Growls
Narrator: Greed’s appetite for labour and work was insatiable – Greed kept consuming –
enslaving humans out of its desire to consume more. Greed didn’t care for its
creator, it happily went on eating, and growing,
The monster: Feed me!
Narrator: Greed had many appetites. Before long it outgrew the land it lived on – so it
invaded its neighbours, taking their lands, always wanting more.
The monster: Feed me!
Narrator: Greed’s appetite for goods kept growing too – far outstripping its ability to
satiate its hunger from that which the natural world could sustain. So, it turned
to chemicals and pesticides. Stripping the earth of all its nutrients and
poisoning it for future generations.
The monster: Feed me!
Narrator: Its appetite for travel and new experiences demanded ever more far-reaching
destinations insisting on more rapid modes of transport that pump rubbish into
the atmosphere – poisoning the air we breath and heating our climate.
The monster: Feed me!
Narrator: Greed’s appetite for fashion destroyed rivers, stripped water from where it was
needed and exploited workers – all in pursuit of the latest trends and styles.
The monster: Feed me!
Narrator: Greed’s appetite for money demanded even more. Stealing from those who
had the least. Hoarding the world’s resources in modern steal barns, under the
control of just a few.
The monster: Feed me!
Narrator: Greed’s hunger for Power knew no bounds – it corrupted the political systems
of the world to suit its own needs, often brain washing those with very little
means, even perverting the religions that had called on its members to care for
one another, twisting teachings and exploiting faiths to serve the needs of
Greed.
The monster: Feed me!
Narrator: Greed’s hunger knows no bounds; it continues to grow.
Is there anything we can do to stop it stripping the life from God’s creation –
until the earth becomes a lifeless husk travelling in space.
The monster shakes its’ head.
Will anyone be brave and daring enough to stop this monster? Will you?
