Saturday Morning Gardening in August

Shortly after I became churchwarden it was brought to my attention by a fellow PCC member that the gardens of our church were overgrowing onto the pavements. I live outside the parish and drive a route to church which does not include the perimeters of the grounds and so had not noticed this. It demonstrates how invaluable it is to have parishioners who live locally and come on foot.
Together with my fellow churchwarden, Mark, we walked around the perimeter and agreed that a good way forward would be to invite members of our church to help out for half an hour or more between 10 and 12 on the Saturdays in August when the weather tends to be better for gardening.
My grandmother loved to say, "Many hands make light work." There were five of us on the first Saturday in August and together we managed to clear two thirds of the perimeter at human level. I would like to make a special mention of Allan whose physical strength made a huge difference to us being able to clear as much as we did.
It is good to see that the hedges and brambles have been cut back along two sides of the church so that they allow better access to the pavement now. We will return to complete the third perimeter this Saturday, 9th August, and then we will look at which shrubs within the grounds of the church need trimming.
We will hopefully know by this Saturday whether we need one or two more Saturdays to complete the work. That will also depend on how many volunteers we have this Saturday. My thanks to those volunteers who were able to give up their morning last Saturday to help with this project.

There is parking available on the site or in the roads around the church.

You can expect a warm welcome; great worship; relevant preaching based in the Word of God and a friendly group of people ready to learn more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
Children are just as much a part of the church family and our worship as the adults and are more than welcome. There is a play area for younger children and break out areas for older children like Abraham's Tent.

Sunday School is once a month and you will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy.

For more information about what happens in the children's work please visit the Children's Ministry page.

After the main meeting finishes there will an be opportunity for prayer if needed as well as refreshments and time to catch up with fellow brothers and sisters.
