We asked a number of people at St Anselm’s, why they attended the particular service they did. They gave some thoughtful replies, and a sense of the different “flavour” of each service. If you are wondering which service you might like to go to, read on…
Wednesday 10am
Service held in the chapel, 12-15 people attend.
“I enjoy the calm oasis in the middle of the week, and the socialising afterwards.”
“The chapel is more intimate – and warmer in the winter!”
“John usually plays some music during communion and at the end, which is nice.”
“The Mother’s Union service is held at this service once a month.”
Sunday 8.00am
Service held in the main church, 15-25 people attend.
“In the small friendly group, I can easily focus on the service. Going to the 8.00 seems to provide a calm pace for the remainder of the day, whatever I am doing.”
“The service could be suitable for someone with a busy life-style, who would appreciate the peace and quiet.”
“I have time to think my thoughts.”
“We like the regular use of the 1662 Prayer book.”
“Always a welcome, friendship and humour to be found there.”
Sunday 10.30am
Service held in the main Church, 60-80 people attend.
“As I live alone, I enjoy the mixture of ages that attend the 10.30. It gives a feeling of a family to which I belong.”
“I like the organ and the songs we sing.”
“It’s good to meet up socially after the service, over a cup of tea or coffee at the back of church.”
“The explanation of the reading comes with the sermon, which helps me understand the Bible more.”
